Welcome to our school library books page, a place where our stakeholders can learn about our MHS Book Collection! With an extensive collection of over 20,000 titles, our library has embraced the challenge of inheriting a wealth of literary materials from its previous location at the Marietta Middle School. Managing this rich assortment of books can be quite an endeavor. Each year, we work diligently to add an additional 500 books to our shelves, ensuring that there's always something new to discover.

Our collection is divided into Fiction Genres, Non-fiction titles, Manga, Graphic Novels, and Biographies. We chose this arrangement after researching and learning from others in our field. We have seen success in this model with the increase in our circulation, especially in our Fiction Genres.

In our commitment to curate the best reading experience for our patrons, we actively follow the District rules of weeding and closely examine our circulation reports. Our recent renovation prompted a necessary review to ensure that our collection remains relevant and engaging. We use our district's selection policy to guide us in choosing the new books we purchase each year. This policy encourages us to select books that are age-appropriate,  support curriculum needs, and most importantly, encourage reading for pleasure. In order to do this we are encouraged to consult reputable, unbiased, professionally prepared selection aids. Here at MHS, we read reviews for our books provided by library journals such as Booklists, Horn Book Magazine, Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly.

On average, we check out a remarkable 50 books a day, a testament to the voracious appetite for knowledge and adventure within our community of young adults, ranging from 14 to 18 years old. We firmly believe that reading is not just a pastime but a powerful tool for personal growth and learning. It fosters empathy by allowing you to step into the shoes of characters from all walks of life, broadening your understanding of the world. Reading also enhances critical thinking skills as you analyze narratives, question assumptions, and explore new perspectives. Our library is a gateway to a world of stories and ideas, where you can embark on countless literary adventures and develop the essential skills that will serve you well in your reading exploration.
