On April 23, 2008, the school district became the first IB World School district in Georgia authorized to offer the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-10. With the addition of the IB Middle Years Program to the IB Primary Years Program (PYP) offered at Sawyer Road Elementary and the long-standing IB Diploma Program (DP) at Marietta High School, MCS is one of only a few school systems nationwide able to provide the full IB (K-12) continuum.Board Approves Tentative FY2013 Budget, May 15
In a vote of 6:0, the Board of Education of the City of Marietta approved at their May 15, 2012 meeting, the Superintendent's recommendation to tentatively adopt the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY2013) budget as submitted for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012. The tentatively adopted budget balances revenues and expenses at $77.7 million. The budget is available for public review leading up to the June 19, 2012, work session when the board is expected to approve the FY2013 budget. Fiscal Year 2013 runs from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

MHS Auditorium Groundbreaking, May 17
Marietta City Schools (MCS) will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Multi-Use Auditorium at Marietta High School (MHS) on Thursday, May 17 at 6 p.m. The Multi-Use Auditorium will accommodate approximately 750 students and is scheduled for completion June 2013. More»

Marietta Athletic Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations Until May 17
The Marietta Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2004 to honor and recognize athletes, teams, coaches, administrators and others who have brought recognition, honor and distinction to Marietta through outstanding contributions to the athletic program at Marietta High School (MHS), at the former Lemon Street High School, at the collegiate level or beyond. Nomination deadline is Thursday, May 17, 2012. Nomination forms are available from the MHS Athletic Office or from the MHS Athletics webpage (Athletic Hall of Fame link on Teams) at mhs.marietta-city.org. MHS 2012 Summer School Program Registration, May 1 – June 4
Marietta High School (MHS) grades 9-12 Summer School (Session I & II) begins Tuesday, June 5 and ends Thursday, June 28, 2012. To register for MHS grades 9-12 Summer School contact Joanne Trout, MHS Curriculum Secretary - Room A203. Summer School Registration ends June 4.

MHS Boys Basketball Summer Skills Camp, June 11-14
Marietta High School Boys Basketball summer skills camp for all rising 4th-8th graders is scheduled for June 11 – 14. Pre-registration cost is $75 due by May 21 ($90 after May 21).

Camp'Us Adventures Summer Camp, June 4 – July 27
Camp'Us Adventures Summer Camp at Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA) for ages 5-14 begins June 4. To register online visit www.mariettacommunityschool.com/camp. Hours are from 6:30 a.m. till 7 p.m. each day and the cost is $140 per week/$35 per day for 4 or fewer days. A $100 non-refundable registration fee is required to reserve a place for your child for the summer. Multiple child discounts are available. All activities and field trips are included in the fee.

Energy Conservation – Summer Hours Marietta Schools, Facilities & Central Office
Marietta City Schools (MCS) moves to its summer schedule four-day work week beginning June 4, 2012, with most facilities closing one day per week Fridays: June 8, 15, 22, 29, and July 13 and 20. All MCS facilities and schools will close Wednesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. All MCS facilities return to a regular five-day workweek Monday, July 23, 2012. More»
